Publishing and sharing

Private publishing and sharing

Who can see a published set, inviting learners by email, stopping sharing, and unpublishing.

Published sets are private

Creator sets are never listed in the library or search. A published set can be studied by you and by the people you've invited and who accepted. Nobody else can open it, even with its address, unless you submit it to the Community Library and a moderator approves it. Your drafts are only ever visible to you.

Inviting learners

Publish the set first. Then choose Share in the editor or on the dashboard, and enter up to 5 email addresses (separate them with commas). You can add a plain-text message of up to 500 characters; links and web addresses aren't allowed, so invitations can't be used for phishing.

Each person gets their own email with a personal link. They sign in (or create a free account) with the invited addressand choose Open the set. An invitation that isn't accepted expires after 30 days.

What invited learners see

  • The published copy, not your draft. Your later edits reach them when you publish again.
  • Your email address and your message. Replies to the invitation go to you.
  • They can study the set, not edit it, and they can't share it on.
  • Their progress is theirs: you see whether they joined, not how they're doing.

The list under the share form shows each address as Invited, Joined, Stopped or Expired.

Stopping sharing

Choose Stop sharing next to an address. Access ends immediately and the set leaves their My sets. Their progress is kept and comes back if you share with them again. They aren't notified.

Unpublishing

Unpublish (in Set details) takes the published copy away and keeps your draft. Learners lose access; their progress is kept and returns if you republish and re-share.

Sharing limits

  • Up to 5 addresses per send and 20 people per day; the same address up to 3 times a day per set.
  • You can't invite yourself, and your account's email must be confirmed.
  • You're responsible for who you share with. Don't use invitations to send unwanted email; we may restrict sharing for accounts that misuse it (upcoming Terms, §7).
